June Scholastic Book Orders due Wednesday June 13 – This will be the last Scholastic order for the year. Online orders or cheques preferred. Thank-you.
Today We:
- Had Music.
- Continued researching about India in partners using various books.
- Got into groups of three to create interesting beginnings on large chart paper using story ideas provided by Ms. England. Each group moved through a series of 8 different story ideas, such as “you’re locked out of your house and it’s raining, “a pirate captain is making Billy walk the plank,” and used their group’s unique coloured marker to write 2 or more interesting beginnings using either a sound, action, thought, or someone speaking. Students please share with your parents what story idea was your favourite, as well as the sentence your group created.
- Continued reading our class read aloud The Lightning Thief, by Rick Riordan.
- Went outside with the other Grade 3 classes to review the lifecycle of a butterfly, and release our Paintedlady butterflies into the flower bed at the front of the school.
- Discussed polygons and recorded the information in our visual journals. A polygon is any closed shape made of straight lines. We also discussed regular and irregular polygons, shapes that aren’t polygons, as well as reviewed special names for specific polygons such as triangle, quadrilateral, pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, and octagon. Students please explain the difference between a regular polygon and an irregular polygon to your parents.
- Played kickball in Gym.
- Went on a polygon hunt around the school in partners and recorded our findings in our visual journals; we drew polygons that we found and labeled where we found them.
- Began watching a video called “Going To School In India.” Students watched 3 out of 6 short video clips about different types of schools and educational formats found in India. Students used their visual journals to take jot notes and create sketches during and after each school example. After viewing all 6 types of school examples students will have to explain which type of school they would choose to attend, and provide a list of reasons why they would enjoy going to that particular type of school. For example one of the schools takes place on a lake, one school takes place on a large bus, one school will take place in a hut, etc…
