Today We:
- Did a practice run through before we led our school assembly.
- Led this morning’s Orange Shirt Assembly. We did an amazing job!
- Participated in our fourth round Literacy Stations: Poetry Pause, Listening Station, Current Events, Buddy Reading, Word Work, and Ipad. Students, explain to your parents what station you were at today, and what you were expected to do.
- Read Tua and the Elephant during snack time. Tua has fed Pohn mangos for breakfast and is now off to the market to get breakfast for herself and her Auntie. We discussed the concepts of: what is a conscious? And what foreshadowing means.
- Had buddy time with our Grade 5 buddies. We played outside together.

Your student should be able to:
- Read silently to themselves for 15 minutes, and give a short summary of what they read.
- Use book covers and pictures within stories to make logical predictions.
- Verbally summarize the main idea of short stories that they have read themselves or listened to.
- Identify and explain the lessons or an author’s purpose within a short story.
- Explain what a noun is, and give an example – a person, place, or thing.
- Explain what a verb is, and give an example – an action word.
- Edit example sentences for opportunities to use “strong verbs” that create interest and detail. Ex. changing the word “talk” to “whispered”
- Identify different ways to help spell words correctly, or edit spelling mistakes. Ex. Word wall, Words, Words, Words book, class dictionaries, etc…
- I can put ideas and information into short paragraphs with topic and supporting sentences.
- I can use other words to make my writing interesting.
- I can retell or explain or paraphrase ideas I read, see, or hear.
- Use mental mathematics strategies for adding and subtracting number facts to 18.
- Demonstrate their understanding of adding and subtracting numbers to 18 by writing, drawing or telling (words, numbers, and pictures)
- Give an example of a repeating pattern.
- Give an example of an increasing pattern.
- Give an example of a decreasing pattern.
- Identify and explain patterns in their surrounding environment.
- Use constructive feedback from their teacher to make positive changes to their art and visual journals
