Milk - The last day students will receive milk is June 2.
Today We:
- Had Silent Reading and Finish Up Time.
- Had Music.
- Began working with fraction rods. We explored this manipulative at our desks, and made observations such as:
- The rod with ½ on it has 2 pieces, the rod with 1/5 on it has 5 pieces, etc..
- You can put different pieces together to make a whole.
- Each piece has a fraction on it, and the same colours have the same fractions
- You can add with them
- As the bottom number in the fraction gets bigger the pieces get smaller. When the bottom number gets smaller the pieces get bigger.
- There are fractions, decimals, and percents written on each piece
- Read our class novel “Ella Enchanted,” by Gail Carson Levine.
- Had Planning Time to design a flower pot/flower box using requirements provided by Ms. England:
- Has to have drainage holes if it is an indoor pot
- Has to have a drainage dish if it is an indoor pot
- Has to have sturdy hooks if it is a planter box
- Have to consider the size and weight of your pot/box : where is it going to hang, be placed, will it be too heavy, etc…
- Went to the Idea Lab to begin building our flower pots/flower boxes.
- Watched a short video on germination, and recorded our understanding in our sketchbooks.
- Discussed various adaptations that plants can have to help them survive, as well as the difference between tap and fibrous roots. We recorded our understanding in our sketchbooks.
- Played Germ tag and Yoshi in Gym.
- Had some free time outside at the end of the day to enjoy the beautiful weather.
