Shoebox - Bring in a sturdy shoebox with a lid for next week’s Science experiment.
Math Update: We will continue to practice our addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts on a daily basis but will be moving onto telling time. You can practice at home by reading digital and analog clocks, as well as estimating how long it takes you to complete certain activities like brushing your teeth.
Today We:
- Discussed Head-Smashed In Buffalo Jump near Fort MacLeod, Alberta; the idea that buffalo jumps were used as strategies to hunt and kill large herds of buffalo. We visited the Head-Smashed In Buffalo Jump website and watched a few short clips about the history and importance of passing on stories and traditions to younger generations. We read the legend Iniskim: Calling Buffalo Stones - A stone spoke to Weasle Woman and showed her how to perform an important ceremony to build a cairn to call the buffalo towards the buffalo jumps, and listened to it in the native Blackfoot language.
- Went to library.
- Practiced telling time using various websites provided by Ms. England. Please continue to work on telling time at home!
- Read our class novel The Lightening Thief by Rick Riordan.
- Explored using light boxes in small groups. Students used various, mirrors, lenses, and translucent materials to reflect and refract light.
- Practiced our basketball skills by dribbling the ball with our left and right hands, and playing keep away in partners. We also learned how to perform a bounce pass and a chest pass.
- Continued working on our name art to accompany our international name day research.
