Today We:
- Created new personal goals for the week.
- Participated in Tuesday Morning Meeting, where we shared artifacts, or stories about our weekends in partners.
- Wrote detailed sandwich paragraphs using our artifacts, or stories about our weekends. Ms. England continues to conference with students individually, to discuss their writing; what punctuation is missing/misplaced, what details are missing, where can juicy vocabulary be added, how to create complex sentences using and, but, for, nor, or, yet, so, as well as how to use alternate beginnings to sentences rather than then and because.
- Continued to work on adding detail, as well as colour to our Children’s Rights pages in our sketchbooks.
- Had Music.
- Began reading our new class read aloud “The Tale of Despereaux.” We have been introduced to the main character, Despereaux, and have discovered that his is quite a unique mouse. We discussed what we think about his quality of life so far; he has a family, but they treat him poorly, and his differences are not celebrated.
- Participated in Literacy Stations. Some students have taken home their Literacy Center duo-tangs to edit and complete various centers.
- Worked through four various equations containing blank variables. Students were introduced to the idea that the equals sign (=) can be thought of “is the same as.” First step is to look for what they know, then say the sentence using the words “is the same as.” For example: ______ + 5 = 4 + 6 “I know 4+6 =10” “blank plus five is the same as 10” “5+5 = 10”
- Played tic tac toe in Gym. Students please explain to your parents how to play this game.
- Finished working through our Math patterning centers. Students please explain to your parents what centers you participated in today and what your task was at each center. We will be moving onto a new unit of study, however we will continue to integrate patterning into our learning.
