Today We:
- Participated in weekly goal setting activities. Students reflected upon last week's goal, and set a new personal goal for this week.
- Practiced the date in French.
- Had Monday Morning Meeting where students shared artifacts and stories about their weekends.
- Participated in a group-editing lesson. We helped Ms. England correct a paragraph that she wrote. We looked for missing and misplaced capitals, periods, question marks, exclamation marks, quotation marks, commas, and spelling mistakes.
- Wrote detailed journal entries.
- Had Gym outside. We played soccer and practiced our skipping skills.
- Read our class novel “The Incredible Journey” by Sheila Burnford.
- Participated in self-directed Literacy Stations. Students worked on one of five stations: Poetry Pause, Current Events, Buddy Reading, Word Work, Ipad, and Listening Station. Some students have taken work home to complete.
- Discussed Wasteless Thursdays. Students in Grade Four will be participating in Wasteless Thursdays as part of their Science Unit – Waste In Our World. Students are asked to bring a wasteless lunch to school on Thursdays. All garbage thrown away during Thursdays at lunch will be totaled and recorded in a bar graph for the next 2 months. Students will be using this data to encourage other classes in the school to rise to the challenge and make a difference in our school, community, and world. Students are very excited and will be looking for ways to bring their food in reusable containers.
- Began our graphing unit in Math. We looked at different examples of bar graphs. We discussed important pieces that need to be present in a bar graph, such as a title, labels, a scale, colour, and straight lines. Students then got into partners to create a graph about favourite colours using the data provided by Ms. England. We will share and review our graphs tomorrow. We will be working on graphing for the next while in Math.
- Began discussing our Secret of Nimh project. Students were introduced to a Venn Diagram and how it works. We will begin filling in our Venn diagrams comparing the book and the movie tomorrow. We wil be using this venn diagram to create a persuasive piece of writing encouraging people to either watch the movie or read the book.
