Today We:
- Set new personal goals for the week.
- Had circle where we shared our opinions on the question “Why do people dance?”
- Got together with the other Grade 3 classes in the Idea Lab for our 3rd visit with Ms. Shirley Hill. As a reflection our class made a thought collage out of facts we learned from Shirley Hill. Each student was expected to write a detailed sentence about what they learned and glue it on a large piece of chart paper. Once students finished their sentence they drew an image/picture on a small square piece of paper that they coloured and then glued to the chart paper.
- Read our class read aloud “I Want to Go Home,” by Gordon Korman.
- Began a KWL Chart (Know Wonder Learned) about Tunisia as a group on large chart paper. We filled in the Know column, and the Want to Know column. We also began looking at the land of Tunisia using the smart board, and various maps.
- Began our Dance unit in Gym. Students had an opportunity to free-move while listening to various pieces of music.
- Went on a Measuring Scavenger Hunt in our classroom. Students were challenged to find objects around the classroom that fit under specified lengths, for example find something that is 1 cm, 10 cm, 5 cm, etc…
- Discussed what it means to be stable. Students stood, and discussed how their stability changed when standing in different positions, for example feet apart, feet together, one foot, two feet, etc… Students were challenged to stack dominoes thinking about keeping this activity “fair.” After a group discussion, students decided that the only thing that should change during the test is the way that they stack the dominoes. They decided that the amount of dominoes, the style of dominoes, as well as the surface the dominoes are stacked on should not change. Tomorrow students will be challenged to stack as many dominoes as they can in two different ways, and record their test in their Science duo-tangs.
Student Quotes:
“I liked Gym because we got to dance.”
“I got to dance to my favourite song today.”
“I liked Gym because we got to express ourselves while dancing.”
“I liked Math because we got to go on a scavenger hunt.”
“I liked when we listened to Shirley Hill.”
“I liked the end of the day because everyone got a free book coupon.”
Question: What is one thing you learned about Tunisia today?
