- Had a very special Carrier Pigeon demonstration outside in the field. We got to ask Mr. Nelson numerous questions about pigeons, as well as help release 17 pigeons into the air.

Your student should be able to:
- Explain that the equals sign (=) can be thought of “is equal to”
- Solve one-step addition and subtraction equations involving a symbol to represent an unknown number. Ex. ____ + 7 = 41, 18 - ____ = 5, etc…
- Understand, recall and apply addition facts up to and including 9 + 9 and related subtraction facts
- Using personal strategies for adding and subtracting with and without the support of manipulatives ex. algorithm, sticks and dots, base ten, chunking, etc…
- Compare samples of various rock and explain similarities and differences
- Given a description of the properties of a particular rock or mineral, identify a sample rock or mineral that matches those properties. Properties that students should be able to describe and interpret include: colour, lustre or “shininess” (shiny, dull, glassy, metallic, earthy) texture (rough, smooth, uneven), hardness (based on scratch tests with available materials), presence of carbonates (tested with vinegar ), overall pattern of rocks
